KUALA LUMPUR (April 20): The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) to facilitate the latter's technopreneurs to make inroads into the global market.

This strategic collaboration will enable MATRADE to promote and commercialise MARDI’s new technopreneurs in the international markets through the corporation's global network of 46 overseas-based offices.

MATRADE chief executive officer Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said the collaboration is timely as Malaysia has reopened its borders to international visitors since April 1, 2022.

“We are anticipating an influx of international buyers and importers back to the country. We welcome them to visit the Malaysia Export Exhibition Centre (MEEC), the sourcing point for a variety of Malaysian-made products and services,” he said in a statement.

MARDI director-general Datuk Dr Mohamad Zabawi Abdul Ghani said the collaboration between both parties would benefit them in promoting their products internationally and he hoped to continue this effort in future to further enhance and strengthen demand for local products in the international arena.

MARDI will be given a pavilion at MEEC, located at Menara MATRADE, which allows 30 technopreneurs to showcase innovative products for 2022 to 2024 period.

Mohd Mustafa also said that other initiatives to internationalise these technopreneurs include virtual business meetings, export acceleration missions, international trade fairs as well an international sourcing programme.

“On the other hand, MARDI, through the participation at MEEC, will avail to the exchange of business contacts and network building with foreign buyers and importers,” he added.
