A TOTAL of 538 applications for the Intellectual Property Filing Fund (IP 2.0 Fund) were received from January 1, 2022, to March 20, 2022, and the applications are expected to increase until the closing date of June 30, 2022.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (picture) said his ministry had also declared April 26 as National Intellectual Property Day (HHIN) to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and respecting intellectual property rights.
“KPDNHEP also provides a platform to recognize the contributions of local intellectual property creators and owners through the organization of the National Intellectual Property Awards (AHIN) with the participation of organisations, students of skills institutions, and secondary school students,” he told Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
The Government has allocated RM 4 million for the Intellectual Property Filing Fund (IP 2.0 Fund) over a period of four years to assist youths, students, and the local community per 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
At the same time, Alexander also said that his ministry had organised a total of 30 awareness programs from 2019 to January 2022 as well as provided online services and a helpdesk system specifically on intellectual property under MyIPO.
He said MyIPO also held initiatives to raise awareness on intellectual property such as campaigns and briefings online (webinars) on topics suitable for youths and students as well as the use of social media and online advertising to target intellectual property owners, youths, students, the local community as well as SME entrepreneurs.
“MyIPOutreach is a MyIPO initiative in conducting marketing activities, promoting awareness, application filing procedures, lower-cost intellectual property search techniques using Facebook and the Media Action Plan which aims to disseminate the latest information on intellectual property through portals, traditional media, and social media,” he said.
The Intellectual Property Filing Fund 2.0 is a continuation of the encouraging response from the implementation of the first series, which was from 2016 to 2020.
