A TOTAL of 12,578 lots across 241 locations have been offered to traders interested in running stalls at Ramadan bazaars in Selangor this year.

“These lots and locations offered by the 12 local councils in Selangor are aimed at offering traders a chance to earn some income, particularly in a post-Covid-19 pandemic situation,” said state local government, public transportation and new village development committee chairman Ng Sze Han, who was responding to Dr Daroyah Alwi’s (Parti Bangsa Malaysia-Sementa) question on Ramadan bazaars at the Selangor state assembly sitting in Shah Alam on Thursday (March 17).

“The local councils are also offering a number of initiatives, such as promoting available lots to potential traders, placing unlicensed traders at available lots and encouraging cashless payment methods at Ramadan bazaars.”

For traders not involved in Ramadan bazaars, he said, hawking or business activities are still permitted as long as they are in compliance with the standard operating procedure and operating hours allowed.

Citing a statement by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBPJ) that it will be providing bins to recycle used cooking oil at Ramadan bazaars under its purview, Wong Siew Ki (PH-Balakong) then asked if such an initiative would be extended to other local councils in Selangor.

“Yes, the Selangor government does encourage traders at Ramadan bazaars to send used cooking oil to be recycled. Some local councils such as MBSJ are taking the initiative to provide bins for such purposes at selected bazaar locations,” said Ng.

“For this year, we hope to have bins to collect used cooking oil placed at at least 30 Ramadan bazaars in Selangor.”
