PETALING JAYA: Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) hopes to further increase opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through a collaboration with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Medac) as well as SME Bank.

It had recently involved 11 companies from various sectors in an Export Acceleration Mission to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held in conjunction with the World Expo 2020 Dubai.

This trip was in line with the government’s aim to expand SME brands’ presence in the market and establish business partnerships with the UAE and its neighbouring countries, including in the Middle East and North Africa or Mena region, it said in a statement.

Matrade’s chief executive officer, Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, said the strategic collaboration between Matrade, Medac and SME Bank signified the importance of synergies within the trade ecosystem in strengthening Malaysia’s trade competitiveness.

The National Trade Blueprint is a five-year development strategy and initiatives for 2021-2025 to enhance Malaysia’s trade competitiveness, specifically in the exports of merchandise.

“Matrade outlines a total of 286 export promotion and exporters development programmes this year for Malaysian companies to brace themselves in weathering the market demands as well as to expand their global footprints.

“Therefore, it is crucial that all parties work together to ensure that the programmes produce high-impact outcomes and, ultimately lift export onto a growth trajectory,” Mohd Mustafa said.

Matrade said it continues to provide support and assistance to Malaysian companies at the forefront of the global market by collaborating with both the public and private sectors to drive the country’s export growth.
