The e-commerce giant said an uptick of ten times was observed in particular for travel dates between Jan 24 and Feb 2.
Shopee also recently announced its partnership with Agoda, Airpaz and Easybook.com to fulfil travellers’ needs for the company’s CNY Travel Campaign until Jan 26, 2022.
Shopee Malaysia head of marketing Kenneth Soh said this was a signal that Malaysians were ready and optimistic about traveling once again.
“It is encouraging to see the recovery of the travel industry on Shopee as people start to make plans again. We will continue to work closely with our travel partners to provide a seamless, safe, and stress-free booking experience for flights, buses and hotels on our platform so Malaysians will have a memorable and enjoyable reunion this Chinese New Year,” he said.
Agoda country director Cleland Robertson said people wanting to travel can find value deals on both its platform and Shopee, whether it is for a family getaway or a couples’ staycation.
“This partnership with Shopee makes travel even more accessible, and as seamless and hassle-free as possible,” he noted.
Airpaz vice president of business development Wesley Vijaya said the platform has projected a 100% increase in air travel bookings for this month compared to December last year.
“We are expecting a positive rebound as people are now more confident in traveling given the increase in vaccination rates, and the reopening of travel routes. We hope that air travel will fully recover by the end of 2022,” he said.
Additionally, Easybook.com managing director William Lee said there was an increase in bus bookings with top destinations including Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, as well as 20 times the demand for Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) bus tickets for the season.
“We saw a decline in travels during the CNY festivities last year due to the lockdown and are expecting the sales of bus tickets to surge leading up to Chinese New Year this year. We recommend travellers conduct a Covid-19 self-test before heading back to their hometown to prevent the spreading of virus to their family members or high-risk groups,” Lee said.
Meanwhile Shopee Malaysia also said there will be good deals available for its Shopee CNY Sale from now until Feb 2.
Among them include free shipping with a minimum spend of RM8, 88% off Bonus where users will receive 88% discount vouchers on CNY products and a chance to win RM8,888 Ang Pow when they play the Shopee Fortune Quiz during the Shopee Live session at 8pm daily.
“From today until Feb 7, 2022, ShopeePay users will stand a chance to win up to 8,888 Shopee coins when they transfer a minimum of RM2.88 via the e-Ang Pow feature to their families and friends. Users may also enjoy up to RM8 cashback and earn up to 12% coins cashback when they pay using ShopeePay at selected merchants,” the platform said.
