STRONGER partnership and new collaborations with the private sector will position Malaysia as a top destination for investors in the region and expand the country’s digital economy.
Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said coherent usage of technology can spur economic growth in the country which will benefit all sectors without leaving anyone behind, in line with the principles of Malaysian Family.
“Efficient and effective utilisation of technologies can drive our economic growth by leveraging on public-private partnership projects which can in turn reduce the government’s expenditure, improve delivery of public facilities and services, as well as encourage innovation and economies of scale.
“By strengthening the partnership and forging new collaboration with the private sector, it will ensure Malaysia’s place as a top regional destination for investors and trigger rapid growth of the digital economy,” he said in his keynote address after launching the new Huawei Customer Solution Innovation Centre (CSIC) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The PM expressed his appreciation for Huawei Technologies Co Ltd’s contribution towards Malaysia’s digital talent development as it employs mostly Malaysian citizens for its headquarters in the country.
Talents are vital in accelerating digital transformation for the nation, said Ismail Sabri.
He added that the Covid-19 pandemic has boosted digitalisation efforts to ease the challenges of doing business during the difficult period without disrupting efficiency and productivity.
“A business entity would need to be agile and flexible to have survived during these trying times and this would not have been possible without the adoption of digital technology especially when face-to-face dealings were not an option.
“To that end, I am delighted by the achievement made by Huawei Malaysia as displayed in the CSIC which helped in the nation’s digital transformation,” said Ismail Sabri.
Under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), the PM said the government’s development strategy will focus on strengthening growth enablers especially in technology and innovation sectors.
He noted that the digital economy is expected to contribute 25.5% to Malaysia’s GDP by 2025, as outlined under the 12MP.
“Our beloved country is charting its course towards a more prosperous and inclusive nation where the principle of leaving no-one behind will be upheld within the concept of Malaysian Family,” added Ismail Sabri.
Huawei Malaysia CEO Michael Yuan (picture) said the new CSIC is designed as the new ICT hub as well as a centre of excellence to fill Malaysia’s technology ecosystem, help accelerate digitalisation across all sectors and position Malaysia as Asean’s digital hub.
“We pledge to continue bringing our global experience to serve the needs of the ICT industry here and to assist our partners in succeeding in their businesses,” said Yuan.
After 20 years of operation in the country, Yuan said Huawei is honoured to have played a part in the country’s digital transformation journey.
Over the years, the company has also forged partnerships with leading telecommunication providers namely Maxis Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia and Digi.Com Bhd.
“We are truly grateful for the support that the Malaysian government has given us throughout the years.
“We will keep working hard to strengthen our collaboration and very much look forward to growing together,” he added.
