Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) is adding five additional initiatives to alleviate the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) exporters under the Market Development Grant (MDG).
The main goal is to ensure the Malaysian exporters remain resilient and competitive to brace through the challenging Covid-19 pandemic.
MDG reimbursement grant is now offering a reimbursement on logistic cost for sending Malaysian products overseas and financial compensation for cancellation or postponement or exhibition locally or overseas.
Apart from that, applicants may also apply for international certification for exports, registration of intellectual property for international market as well as advertising and promotion expenses for exports.
Matrade recently held a workshop to help SME applicants with the MDG application process, including highlighting a common mistake to avoid.
The session drew a strong crowd, with 1,064 participants attending and over 85% of the audience watching.
“We hope with such facility, Malaysian SMEs exporters will be able to revive and sustain their export business and remain competitive in the global market,” Matrade CEO Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz (picture) said in a statement yesterday.
To date, Matrade has received 2,200 applications between 15 July and 4 Aug, 2021, and the number is constantly growing.
It also added that, as of 31 July, 2021, 770 SMEs have benefitted from the grant. Matrade is encouraging more SMEs to participate in the programme.
Malaysian SMEs interested in using the MDG facility must first register as Matrade members at www.matrade.gov.my, and all MDG applications online can be made via at the same site.
