PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) has launched a campaign to assist its rest and service areas’ (R&Rs) business operators whose income have been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The “Satu Pembelian, Seribu Harapan” campaign is aimed at inviting highway customers, who have the permission to travel, to support these business operators at the R&Rs along their journey.
Purchasing a meal or a drink at these R&Rs will not help only the traders but also the entire supply chain, including highway fence-line community businesses whose livelihood depend on supplying goods to the highway R&R business operators.
Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Datuk Mohd Shuhaimi Hassan said the initiative augured well with the highway sector’s long-standing intention to elevate the livelihood of its fence-line community traders.
“PLUS has also implemented several initiatives, including organising online training to help the local operators adapt their business to the new reality through innovation and digitisation,” he said.
PLUS introduced an online pre-order system for contactless services at the R&R through the PLUS application in April last year, he said.
Customers can make F&B purchases via the app’s pre-order function.
PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said when the first movement control order was implemented in March last year, they extended help to all their R&R businesses with rental reduction and waivers.
“However, with the prolonged travel limitations, many of our local small businesses on our highways have been hit hard and faced different challenges than those within the town or city.
“Every purchase at a PLUS R&R goes a long way to support the many communities along our highways,” he added.
PLUS maintains that all safety standard operating procedure are adhered to on-site and its R&Rs are clean and well-kept to give travellers peace of mind.
Highway customers can download the PLUS mobile app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
