Alibaba Cloud and Sarawak Digital Economy Corp Bhd (SDEC) have forged a collaboration to digitalise small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak and propel the state towards a digital future.

SDEC, a wholly owned company of the Sarawak state government, will leverage Alibaba Cloud’s public cloud service, especially on the advanced features like elastic computing, big data and artificial intelligence.

“SDEC’s vision is to accelerate economic prosperity through digitalisation. As a statelinked company, we need to synergise our efforts with all stakeholders towards accelerating the adoption of digitalisation among local SMEs,” SDEC CEO Sudarnoto Osman said in a statement yesterday.

He said Alibaba Cloud’s robust cloud infrastructure and comprehensive suite of public cloud solutions, especially in the Internet, e-commerce, retail and financial technology industries, would help SMEs on their digital journey. Alibaba Cloud is the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.

SMEs that currently use SDEC’s cloud platform, SDeCloud, will be able to choose solutions and products provided by Alibaba Cloud.

The company said local SMEs could achieve business agility, elasticity and scalability in a better way and optimise the cost for information technology management by maximising Alibaba Cloud’s proven technology.

With over 10 years of experience in digital transformation and expertise in different industries, SDEC said Alibaba Cloud will help the company enhance its impact and reach to fast-track the digitalisation programmes in Sarawak.

It added that the collaboration comes at an opportune time as Malaysia works towards the National Digital Economy Blueprint that aims to make Malaysia a high-value-added economy and a net exporter of homegrown technologies and digital solutions by the end of this decade.

Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Malaysia GM Jordy Cao said cloud computing technology could act as a catalyst for inclusive innovation.

“With our cutting-edge technology and commitment to Malaysia, we look forward to working with SDEC to transform the state and take it to greater heights, as well as supporting local SMEs to better serve the people of Sarawak,” Cao said.
