PETALING JAYA: Only 95,142 of the 517,144 companies which applied to operate during the June 1 to 14 lockdown have so far obtained approval, according to the ministry of international trade and industry (Miti).
In a statement today, Miti said that the numbers were accurate as of noon today, with the ministry processing applications on an ongoing basis.
A Miti spokesman added that companies that had their application rejected cannot reapply.
Miti said that based on the National Security Council’s (MKN) imposition of workforce capacities, it is estimated that a workforce of 1.2 million people from the 95,142 approved companies are currently allowed to work at premises.
“This effectively amounts to a reduction of two million from the 3.2 million total workforce in the approved companies,” it added.
Yesterday, the MKN decided that Miti would administer the approvals of companies allowed to operate during the lockdown through its Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0, after which Miti immediately held discussions with the relevant ministries in order to implement the latest decision.
As of today, nine ministries have provided their respective approved list of economic sectors for Miti to issue approval letters to companies registered with CIMS 3.0.
Miti added it had also set up a special operation centre to ensure that the CIMS 3.0 runs smoothly and effectively, with top Miti officials and agencies on site to ensure effective coordination with other ministries and the smooth processing of applications.
Under the conditions set by MKN, all companies operating in sectors that are allowed to operate during the lockdown must register with the CIMS 3.0 if they wish to remain open for business.
All approval letters issued by Miti via CIMS 3.0 will bear a QR code so as to enable the authorities and enforcement agencies to verify the authenticity of the approval letters.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid today said companies in the essential service categories allowed to operate during the total lockdown have three days to obtain the latest permission letters from Miti.
After Thursday, police will begin to issue compounds to those who are still producing the old letters.
“This morning, we found that many people were still producing the old Miti letters. We hope they can make use of this three-day period to obtain new permission letters from the ministry,” he said as reported by Bernama, after conducting spot checks at several factories in Petaling Jaya.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah said permission letters issued by Miti during the previous movement control order periods were no longer applicable during the current lockdown and that companies must make new applications.
