The continuing importance of the small and medium enterprise (SME) market – and helping to enabling it for a digital future – is a theme reiterated in a number of initiatives, most recently from Malaysia’s Maxis and Bahrain’s Batelco.

Maxis Business, part of Maxis, a leading converged solutions provider in Malaysia, has announced the launch of what it calls the UsahaWIRA Programme, in order, it says, to empower SMEs with digitisation opportunities.

As part of the programme, Maxis will be rolling out a series of initiatives and relevant content with a focus on the SME digitisation programme and incentives put together by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

These initiatives will showcase success stories of real-life UsahaWIRAs (hero entrepreneurs) that are already reaping the benefits of the government’s SME Digitalisation Grant, in line with initiatives to drive digital adoption. In addition, a Maxis SME Help Squad will be accessible to answer any questions business owners may have on the grant.

In Bahrain meanwhile, Business in a Box is a new solution from telecommunications company Batelco to deliver a full suite of technology productivity tools for SMEs.

Starting and running a small business can be overwhelming, Batelco says, as there are many elements to consider, such as drafting a business plan, securing funding, and finding the right technology and devices needed to run the business efficiently. Batelco says its Business in a Box includes all the essential digital business tools, which can be tailored to each company’s specific requirements, all in one package with one single bill.

The bundle includes internet connectivity, the full suite of Microsoft 365 with essential Office applications, and cloud storage on OneDrive to provide access to files from any device, anytime and anywhere.

Additionally, all the necessary business devices such as laptops, printers, tablets, and mobiles are part of the deal, along with top-of-the range network security, and cloud POS (point of sale), enabling businesses to manage their sales, inventory and payments.
