The Selangor government is inviting SMEs to apply for its Digital Matching Grant, totally worth RM5 million which aims to help entrepreneurs to digitalise their businesses.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government has allocated 50% matching grant or maximum RM5,000 to each SME to subscribe to the chosen digital service providers.

The initiative is expected to benefit at least 1,000 SMEs in Selangor.

“SMEs that lack the resources to digitalise their businesses are invited to apply for this grant to strengthen the digital reach of their businesses,” he said after launching the Digitalisation Matching Grant in Shah Alam, Selangor today.

“The government wants to assure that merchants and consumers will benefit from the various initiatives and grants provided.

It is hoped that many Selangor SMEs will apply for the grant and enjoy the benefits,” he added.

Amirudin also stressed that the digitalisation agenda is important as it leads to the creation of  a new economy that would contribute to new talents and employment opportunities.

At present, Selangor houses some 180,000 of SMEs, or 20% of the total shares in the country, according to SME Corp data.

Amirudin said the application of the digitalisation grant will be vetted via a special evaluation committee chaired by Datuk Ng Wan Peng, the former chief operations officer of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
