PETALING JAYA: Only five sectors are allowed to operate during the latest movement control order that starts tomorrow.

They are essential economic sectors such as factories and manufacturing, construction, services, trade and distribution, along with plantation and commodities.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in his special address, said these sectors were allowed to operate due to their role in providing basic necessities, such as food, drinks and household goods as well as self-care, personal protective and medical equipment and medicine to medical frontliners, and international trade activities.

“We have to ensure the supply for such items is not disrupted and remain available to support the current critical infrastructure and emergency works, ” he said.

Muhyiddin, however, said only 30% of workers within the management level were allowed to be in the office, adding that employers would have to determine the number of staff and supporting staff who were required to be in the office at any given time.

He said the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) would provide details on the types of services considered as essential economic sectors.

“Miti and the Works Ministry will also give details on the type of construction works that are allowed to operate, ” he said.

Muhyiddin added that a work from home order would be enforced for those not in the essential list.
