Mobile phones and tablets were the top-selling products in Lazada Malaysia website during 11.11 sales last week, with Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and Apple showing stellar sales performance as the top five brands.

Lazada Malaysia CEO Leo Chow said local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) also sold up to 680,000 items during the sale, where 40% of the active sellers were SMEs that just joined the platform in March 2020 via Lazada Malaysia’s stimulus initiative.

“These SMEs collectively sold 680,000 items. We know that the initiative had helped the local SME community digitalise their business and bounce back from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a statement.

Chow also said the newly created Chief Discount Officer Show attracted over 10 million viewers across all platforms with 240,000 user engagements, while selling more than 13,000 items in less than two hours.

“The iconic Lazada Super Show featured performances from popular Malaysian celebrities as part of its commitment to support local acts during these challenging times.”

“Additionally, we knew our logistics would be vital in particular for this sale, following which LazMall Guaranteed Delivery service had stepped up to a new level and made 100% successful same-day deliveries direct from Lazada’s warehouse to shoppers’ homes,” he added.

According to him, the platform broke its own record by topping its 2019 achievement sales with new heights achieved across multiple areas.

“Sellers and brands have made Lazada their go-to e-commerce partner and destination for the biggest annual shopping festival. Our confidence has been further strengthened and we are more dedicated than ever in our commitment to contribute to the increasingly vibrant local digital economy,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shopee said sellers on its platform who participated in the 11.11 Big Sale saw 10 times more orders compared to an average day.

Its regional MD Ian Ho said some of the top categories included home and living, pet products and groceries.

“We are humbled by the strong support shown during the 11.11 Big Sale. Its success reflects the continued growth of e-commerce in the region and the vast opportunities it presents for businesses and shoppers,” he said.

According to Ho, events such as this one allow the platform to push the boundaries of innovation, while introducing new features and initiatives that can empower brands and sellers to move into high gears of recovery particularly during these challenging times.

“A surge in shopping activity creates tangible growth for local businesses. Shopping activity on Nov 11 created the tangible growth for local businesses. The top 3,000 Malaysian micro SMEs on Shopee achieved an average of RM55,000 in sales from the 11.11 Big Sale.”

“We also saw strong demand in major cities like Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, clocking in high shopping activities with 650,000 items sold in an hour,” Ho said.

He also said, similarly, electronics proved to have quite a strong demand from shoppers, where Xiaomi saw its bestsellers Redmi Note 8, Mi True Wireless Earbuds and Mi Band 4C flying off the virtual shelves, while Huawei recorded RM1 million in sales just on its Matebook D 15 in 10 minutes.

“Looking at customer trends and performances from local businesses, there is no doubt that e-commerce has the potential to positively impact our communities. We will continue building on our vision so they can benefit greatly from e-commerce no matter who they are and where they are. We look forward to wrapping up the year on a meaningful note with our upcoming finale event, the 12.12 Birthday Sale,” Ho said.
