KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 20): As Malaysia transitioned into targeted repayment assistance following the end of the six-month blanket loan moratorium in September, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) said it had approved 99% of the applications it processed from individuals and SME customers for repayment assistance as at Oct 15.

Of these approvals, some 38% have been granted a further moratorium on the repayment of their loans or financing, Maybank said in a statement.

Its Group CEO of Community Financial Services, Datuk John Chong, said the bank has processed some 81,000 applications from individuals and SME customers, and is in the midst of processing additional applications.

“Maybank is ever ready to continue supporting our customers and those who need assistance can still contact us to discuss repayment packages to suit their current financial needs,” he said.

According to Maybank, its repayment assistance packages include additional months’ deferment of loan or financing repayments for those recently unemployed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as reduction of loan or financing repayments for those with reduced income.

Meanwhile, over 85% of the bank’s retail customer base have continued to service their loans and financing as usual from October 1, Chong said.

He went on to say that besides the repayment assistance, Maybank also offers financing solutions to its various customer segments, including SMEs and micro-SMEs seeking to sustain and grow their businesses.

"We will continue to engage with those facing challenges to assist them with appropriate solutions.

"We have a range of financing options available, with the most convenient being our recently launched SME Digital Financing — a digital financing solution with approval as fast as 10 minutes and offering an end-to-end digital experience, with full straight-through processing, from application to approval and disbursement," he added.

At market close, Maybank's shares were down two sen or 0.28% at RM7.18 with a market capitalisation of RM80.71 billion.
