KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 19): The Franchise International Malaysia 2020 (FIM2020) held virtually for the first time, in light of COVID-19 is the best platform to explore franchise business opportunities, according to the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA).

MFA chairman Datuk Dr Radzali Hassan said the programme, organised by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and MFA from Oct 15 until Oct 21, is themed ‘Beyond 2020: Towards Digitalising Franchising’.

“Visitors can interact with exhibitors via live chat, video conferences and live session,” he said in a statement in conjunction with the launch of Virtual FIM2020 by Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said this year’s programme is targeted at youths, retirees, women, and small-time entrepreneurs interested in the franchise business.

Local and international franchises that participated in the exhibition include MBE Etc, LaundryBar, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Marrybrown, MuzArt International, Tealive, and The Manhattan Fish Market.

Meanwhile, Linggi said 10 per cent of the local franchise brands have expanded their business overseas under the franchise development strengthening programme to increase exports.

“The Ministry always strives to put the franchise industry as the main sector that can give a high impact not only in terms of entrepreneurship development but also in offering more job opportunities and added value to the society,” he said.
