An assistant manager won the grand prize of a car in Mydin’s “Buy and Win” contest, held in conjunction with the OHMYDIN! The Brand Festival campaign.

Rashidah Abdul Rashid, 35, will drive away with a Perodua Myvi worth RM50,000.

“It is a blessing as this is my first car,” she said at the prize-giving ceremony at Mydin USJ in Subang Jaya.

The mother of one from Cheras said she bought two Mydin e-vouchers through an e-commerce platform, worth RM45 each, which qualified her to participate in the contest.

“I can use the Mydin e-vouchers to shop for products up to November this year,” said Rashidah. The other 15 consolation prize winners took home RM3,000 Mydin cash vouchers each.

Also present at the event were Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin.

Speaking to reporters later, Ameer said Mydin had been promoting the Buy Malaysian Products campaign and supporting the development of small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) for over 15 years.

“We put SME products at designated shelves and ensure promoters are on hand so customers know about the quality of these products which also suit local tastes,” he pointed out.

Ameer expressed hope that over 200 SMEs which had been dealing with them for years, would use the opportunities given to promote their business further at 68 Mydin branches nationwide.

“There are SMEs which have recorded sales ranging from RM1mil to RM4mil each,” he said, adding that Mydin was glad to have contributed to the SMEs’ success.

To recognise the achievements of 20 SMEs that had been doing business with Mydin for more than 10 years, Ameer presented RM163,000 in marketing funds so they could develop further.

“We are helping each other as customers seek unique SME products that can only be found in Mydin hypermarkets.

“They can start at Mydin and sell in other places later,” he said.

He also called on successful SMEs to give back to society.

“They should share their knowledge such as tips on marketing strategies so that others can be successful too in business. They should embrace the concept of growing by sharing.”

The funds were also given to mark the hypermarket chain’s 63rd anniversary.

Alexander commended industry players such as Mydin for supporting the Buy Malaysian Products campaign.

He noted that local SMEs had the opportunity to grow their business at Mydin as the hypermarket chain displays their products prominently, giving customers easy access.

“Some SMEs which started their business with Mydin only had sales of several hundred ringgit at the beginning and now some of them have sales worth millions.

“This is proof that they can be successful if given a chance,” he added.

Alexander said the Buy Malaysian Products campaign could assist local SMEs to recover during this challenging time.

“We have asked industry players to hold dialogue sessions to assist SMEs further,” said Alexandder, adding that various incentives were also given out during this period.
