KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's RM500 million Sukuk Prihatin to allow the rakyat and businesses support economic recovery will be launched tomorrow (Tuesday) with a fully digital subscription process.

The Sukuk Prihatin was part of the government's RM35 billion National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana), the ministry said in a statement today.

The sukuk launch would be witnessed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, according to the Finance Ministry.

Details of the sukuk such as rate of returns and tenure, are expected to be announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the launch.

The ministry said the sukuk was a result of requests from various parties to assist in the country's recovery efforts from the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The proceeds from the Sukuk Prihatin will be channelled to a number of initiatives that have been identified.

"This includes increasing connectivity to rural schools, funding research grants for infectious diseases, and financing micro-small and medium enterprises, especially women entrepreneurs," it added.
