KOTA KINABALU: The construction and forestry sectors in Sabah can begin operations in the state immediately, says Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Chief Minister said construction and maintenance companies and companies related to the industry's network have been given the go-ahead from Friday (May 8) as Sabah slowly opens up the economy under the conditional movement control order (MCO).

He said the works allowed included building and infrastructure construction, public amenities and landscape works, among others.

Other activities allowed are maintenance for buildings and infrastructure repairs, landscape, grass cutting and drain cleaning, among others, he said.

He said companies operating quarries, sand, cement and clinkers as well as land-clearing activities and transport are also allowed to operate.

For the forestry sector, he said that upstream activities involving forestry estate, forest restoration, transportation of forest products and other similar activities are allowed.

He said companies involved in forestry-linked networks such as sea and land transport logistics, warehouses, retail yards and import and export of the products were can also begin operations.

He said that both the construction and forestry sectors must abide by standard operating procedures outlined by the Health Department to ensure checks on the spread of Covid-19.

Workers must also be certified Covid-19 free by the Health Department.
