Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s youth are set to benefit from a new renewable energy initiative following a strategic partnership between Sabah Entrepreneurs Transformation (SET), Verdant Solar Sdn Bhd, and Montfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC).
The collaboration was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the AI Summit + SME Expo International 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
The partnership aims to combine sustainability, technology and entrepreneurship to create skills and employment opportunities for young Sabahans.
As part of the initiative, Verdant Solar will install a 27 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at MYTC under its CSR programme, “Brightening Lives, Empowering Futures.”
The system is expected to reduce electricity costs while promoting clean energy awareness.
Verdant Solar will also develop a Basic Solar PV Learning Module integrated into Montfort’s Air-Conditioning & Maintenance Programme, equipping students with practical knowledge in solar technology, safety, and installation techniques.
The programme will prepare participants for future careers and internships in the renewable energy sector.
SET Founder and President Datuk George Lim Su Chung, said the partnership reflects a broader vision to transform 10,000 entrepreneurs in Sabah over the next decade.
“By merging clean energy with entrepreneurship, we are empowering a new generation of youth to build a greener and more resilient Sabah,” he said.
Verdant Solar CEO Zeth Lim said the collaboration goes beyond corporate social responsibility.
“This is a long-term investment in Sabah’s human capital and the nation’s clean energy future,” he said.
The tripartite partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainability, skill development, and inclusive growth, reinforcing the potential for Sabah to become a leader in clean energy and green innovation.
