KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): The Malaysian Micro Business Association (Mamba) is urging fair and open talks between the government, e-commerce platforms, and sellers to handle upcoming platform fee changes set to begin on Wednesday, July 16. These reportedly include a new 54 sen support fee per order, higher transaction charges, and increased 'pay later' commission rates.

Mamba, which represents 76.5% of MSMEs, said price hikes are difficult, but global issues like the US-China trade war are bringing in cheap Chinese goods that hurt local sellers. This makes it even more important to support platforms that focus on helping MSMEs.

Mamba in a statement said platforms must keep investing in key services — like faster delivery, easier refunds, better search tools, and artificial intelligence — to improve customer experience and help sellers grow. Without reinvestment, the whole e-commerce ecosystem could suffer.

It said Malaysia’s e-commerce market is expected to grow to RM67.1 billion by 2028, so joint investment from platforms and sellers is vital. Mamba warns against harsh criticism or threats towards platforms over fee changes, saying it could backfire on local businesses.
