The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has launched its MD Business Digitalisation Initiative (BDI) in Sarawak, marking its first rollout in East Malaysia. This strategic effort aims to accelerate inclusive digital growth by equipping MSMEs with innovative tools to enhance productivity, streamline operations, and future-proof their businesses.
The launch was officiated by Dato Sri Haji Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak.
Introduced under the MADANI Government, the BDI represents a whole-of-nation approach to digital transformation, designed to empower businesses across Malaysia—including those in Sarawak—with the resources and support they need to thrive in the country’s rapidly growing digital economy.
The initiative is delivered in collaboration with the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (MINTRED) Sarawak.
Deputy Minister of Digital, Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong, highlighted the significance of the rollout, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to supporting every region in its digital journey.
He noted that Sarawak’s MSMEs play a critical role in driving regional economic growth and that embracing digitalisation and e-Invoicing would position them for improved efficiency, transparency, and global competitiveness.
Wilson added that Sarawak’s leadership in renewable energy, when combined with its digital ambition, presents a unique opportunity for innovation, and the Ministry of Digital is committed to being a long-term partner in realising this vision.
With the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 in full swing, the collaboration between the ministry, MDEC, and the state is expected to deepen in the months ahead, driving meaningful progress for the local MSME ecosystem and the people of Sarawak.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, emphasised the importance of strong federal-state collaboration in supporting local businesses, describing Sarawak as a vital component of Malaysia’s digital future.
He reiterated MDEC’s commitment to driving state-level transformation, nurturing local innovation, and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
Anuar stressed that through close cooperation with the Sarawak government, MDEC and the Ministry of Digital will continue working to empower MSMEs, ensuring no business is left behind in the journey toward a future-ready digital economy.
