KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has lauded the Selangor government for its proactive role in spearheading Malaysia’s semiconductor and digital transformation, describing the state as an important force in driving the country’s industrial future.

He said Selangor’s initiatives, including the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (Asem), reflect its forward-looking approach in preparing the nation for future technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), biotech, smart mobility, and sustainability.

“Selangor is not waiting for the future… it is building it, and bringing everyone along,” Gobind said in his officiating speech at the launch of the Selangor Twin Accelerator Programme 2025 today.

He credited the state government for not only supporting digitalisation at the small and medium enterprises (SME) level, but for also helping local companies scale internationally through initiatives like the Selangor Deep Tech Xccelerator Programme (Deep-X) and the Selangor Retail Tech Xccelerator Programme (Retail-X) — both part of the Selangor Twin Accelerator Programme.

Later at a press conference, Gobind said his ministry is also actively engaging with all state governments, including Penang, Sabah, and Sarawak, to bring together their unique strengths and initiatives onto a single national innovation platform.

The minister added that collaboration is vital to scaling Malaysia’s digital economy.

“We want to pull our strengths together rather than recreate the wheel. Every state has its own assets.

“Our job is to connect them and build an ecosystem where we all succeed,” he said.

Gobind also praised the active participation of states like Selangor and Penang, and encouraged others to replicate similar accelerator programmes to foster startup growth and talent development across clusters and industries.

Earlier, he emphasised the need to break down data silos between ministries, calling for a unified, macro-level approach to data in order to enable more integrated and effective national solutions.

“This accelerator (programme) is not just an event, it is a signal that we are training talent, funding innovation, and opening doors to global platforms,” Gobind said.
