KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed organisers of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima '25) to focus more on empowering local companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The prime minister's senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said this was aimed at helping them penetrate international markets through innovation.
Tunku Nashrul said the prime minister will attend Lima '25 after concluding his official visit to Russia from May 13 to 16.
"The prime minister stressed that Lima '25 is not merely an exhibition of assets and technologies, but a strategic platform for fostering collaboration between governments, industry players, and educational institutions.
"It brings together key stakeholders in the defence and commercial aviation sectors, including those involved in MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), Internet of Things, satellite and space technologies," he said during the Prime Minister's Office daily briefing today.
Tunku Nashrul said the exhibition reflects Malaysia's commitment to strengthening its position as a regional and global hub for maritime and aerospace technology.
He said Lima '25 is also expected to stimulate economic growth by attracting foreign direct investment and boosting tourism and international trade.
"The prime minister expressed hope that all preparations will proceed smoothly and warmly welcomes exhibitors, investors, and visitors from both Malaysia and abroad to make Lima '25 one of the most significant editions in its history," he said.
Lima '25, scheduled for May 20-24, first organised in 1991, remains one of the largest exhibitions in the maritime and aerospace industry in Southeast Asia.
This year's edition is set to deliver one of its most captivating displays yet, with 102 aircraft confirmed and 35 naval vessels expected.
Of the total aircraft, 64 will participate in aerial performances, including aerobatic routines, solo flights, and the signature opening flypast, while another 38 will be on static display.
