KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's logistics industry is undergoing a structural shift as demand grows for more integrated supply chain solutions that go beyond traditional last-mile delivery.
Driven by changes in consumer behaviour and the pressure for greater efficiency and transparency, logistics providers are being pushed to expand their role across the entire supply chain, from upstream raw material movement to midstream distribution support.
Ninja Van Malaysia chief executive officer Lin Zheng told Business Times there remains a clear gap in the ecosystem, particularly in the business-to-business (B2B) segment.
"While much attention has traditionally been given to last-mile delivery, there has been an increasing need for upstream, the movement of raw materials or components from suppliers to manufacturers, and midstream logistics solutions, the flow of goods between manufacturers and distribution centres or warehouses, especially in the B2B sector."
Lin added that this shift is especially important as more businesses, from e-commerce sellers to enterprise-level retailers, seek logistics partners capable of supporting flexible, end-to-end supply chain strategies amid global uncertainties.
In Southeast Asia, he said the logistics landscape is evolving rapidly, shaped by shifts in global trade, rising consumer expectations, and the growing importance of regional resilience.
"The volatility of global tariffs, particularly following US-China trade tensions, is prompting businesses to rethink traditional global supply chains and increasingly pivot toward intra-Asean trade and regional manufacturing diversification," he added.
Lin also pointed out the relocation of production facilities and the establishment of smart logistics hubs in recent years, alongside a rising demand for logistics partners who can offer both regional reach and local responsiveness.
In response, Ninja Van Malaysia is expanding its cross-border capabilities and enhancing its end-to-end logistics infrastructure, which spans upstream warehousing, midstream distribution, and last-mile delivery, along with restocking support.
Lin said this comprehensive approach enables Ninja Van Malaysia to better serve local small and medium enterprises and regional e-commerce players seeking to grow their presence across Asean.
