KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department will streamline the application process for the long-term social visit pass for business visitors and foreign investors (investor pass), which will take effect on April 1.

While welcoming the initiative, Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the streamlined process would cover endorsement by investment agencies, verification, approval and the issuance of the investor pass through a fully online, end-to-end system.

He said this initiative is expected to boost Malaysia's investment ecosystem while maintaining security screenings for potential investors.

"This initiative aims to facilitate the stay of foreign investors in Malaysia for an appropriate duration, particularly for those who have committed to investing in the country through investment agencies or relevant authorities.

"Under this scheme, business visitors and foreign investors will be allowed to stay in Malaysia for six months, with the possibility of an extension for another six months, subject to justification and the applicant's requirements," he said today.

He said pass holders will also be granted the benefit of a multiple entry visa.

On March 12, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said a special pass for investors and expatriates would be introduced.

Saifuddin said the new immigration facility was designed to ease the entry of foreign investors, particularly those committed to investing in the country through investment agencies.
