The Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) has joined forces with Kintone Southeast Asia Sdn Bhd (Kintone) to drive Sarawak’s digital transformation forward. Their collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is set to accelerate the state’s digital economy by integrating cutting-edge technologies in alignment with Sarawak’s vision of a sustainable, technology-driven future.

Aimed at empowering Sarawak’s SMEs with digital tools, SDEC and Kintone recently co-hosted the inaugural SME Digital Transformation Seminar in Kuching on 18 February. This landmark event provided businesses with essential insights, resources, and expertise to navigate digitalisation successfully.

The seminar marked a pivotal moment in Sarawak’s journey towards technological advancement, equipping SMEs with the necessary knowledge to stay competitive in an increasingly digital landscape.

Sarawak has emerged as a frontrunner in Malaysia’s digitalisation efforts, driven by the state government’s proactive approach in building robust digital infrastructure. The collaboration between SDEC and Kintone aligns seamlessly with the objectives outlined in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, catering to the rising demand for accessible and adaptable digital solutions among local enterprises.

As SMEs account for approximately 97% of businesses in Malaysia, they form the backbone of the national economy. Recognising this, Tsubasa Nakazawa, Managing Director of Kintone Southeast Asia, highlighted the significance of Kintone’s no-code platform in simplifying business operations.

“Kintone’s intuitive platform streamlines workflow processes, allowing SMEs from various industries—including tourism, construction, and retail—to develop custom applications tailored to their needs at a fraction of conventional costs. This significantly reduces the financial burden of IT investments that many businesses struggle to afford,” he said.

“Our ultimate goal is to facilitate seamless technology adoption for businesses of all sizes, ensuring operational efficiency and scalable growth. With over 37,000 customers worldwide, Kintone is dedicated to enhancing productivity, collaboration, and digital capabilities across businesses, government agencies, and communities.”

This initiative reinforces Kintone’s broader commitment to empowering SMEs in Sarawak, Borneo, and beyond.

The SDEC x Kintone seminar convened key government officials, industry experts, and business owners, providing a valuable platform to explore how digital tools can optimise operations without requiring extensive IT knowledge.

Attendees gained hands-on experience with Kintone’s user-friendly platform, which enables streamlined workflow management and enhanced collaboration at a manageable pace. The event also fostered networking opportunities, allowing participants to exchange ideas and explore potential partnerships.

With digital transformation serving as a cornerstone of Sarawak’s economic progress, this seminar underscored the shared vision that technology should be an enabler rather than a barrier.

Through practical demonstrations and expert-led discussions, participants witnessed firsthand how Kintone’s flexible platform can simplify business processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and equip enterprises with the agility to thrive in an evolving digital ecosystem.
