SUNGAI SIPUT: The Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister, through the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun), will launch six special studios in collaboration with TikTok this year.

Its minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick said this new initiative aimed to assist entrepreneurs, including micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs), by providing modern facilities to market their products and services through social media platforms.

Ewon said the TikTok Tekun Studios were under renovation, and as an initial step, the first studio in Penampang, Sabah, would be officially launched next month.

"One studio will be in Sabah, one in Sarawak, and four in Peninsular Malaysia as part of the first phase.

"I have received a visit from (representatives of) TikTok Malaysia, who have expressed their willingness to increase the number of studios beyond the initial agreement with Tekun.

"Following an evaluation of the studios, we hope to build more so that a wider range of entrepreneurs can benefit from this initiative," he said after officiating at the opening of the Sungai Siput Tekun branch office here today.

Ewon said the initiative reflected the ministry's commitment to digitalisation as a cornerstone of entrepreneurial growth, acknowledging the role platforms like TikTok play in transforming marketing and sales strategies for small businesses.

In other developments, Ewon announced that Tekun had allocated RM75 million to support 3,000 entrepreneurs of informal and micro businesses in Perak this year.

"Since its establishment in 1998, Tekun has provided business financing to 593,605 entrepreneurs, amounting to RM10.07 billion nationwide.

"In Perak, Tekun has disbursed RM678 million to 40,726 entrepreneurs as of last December through its 18 branch offices.

"The opening of the new Tekun branch office in Sungai Siput is a step towards strengthening its presence and providing more support to entrepreneurs, particularly in Sungai Siput," he added.
