Malaysia is solidifying its position in the global digital economy through the adoption of electronic invoicing (e-invoicing), aiming to drive efficiency, transparency, and innovation.

Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong highlighted the transformative impact of e-invoicing at the recent E-Invoicing Exchange Summit 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, organised by Vereon AG and supported by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

“E-invoicing represents a fundamental shift towards greater efficiencies, transparency, and compliance, facilitating seamless cross-border trade,” said Wilson. He added that the initiative is part of Malaysia’s broader vision to empower businesses while benefiting the rakyat.

The event also saw the participation of MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil, Vereon AG CEO Johannes Von Mulert, and OpenPeppol Secretary General Andre Hoddevik.

MDEC, as Malaysia’s Peppol Authority, leads the National e-Invoicing Initiative aligned with the 12th Malaysian Plan (RMK-12), Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDigital), and the National e-Commerce Strategic Roadmap. Peppol facilitates the secure electronic exchange of procurement documents between businesses and governments globally.

Anuar stated, “Malaysia now ranks among the top five countries globally in Peppol membership, reflecting the robust growth of local e-invoicing service providers and commitment to fostering a competitive global ecosystem.”

The summit marked Malaysia’s growing role in advancing digital transformation and promoting internationally interoperable e-invoicing systems. The event brought together policymakers, digital economy experts, and business leaders worldwide to explore the future of digital trade.
