KUALA LUMPUR: The Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE) programme has created 15,068 job opportunities and generated RM181.5 million in cumulative sales since its launch in 2014 to Oct 31, this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan said over the same period, 8,543 entrepreneurs received training and guidance under the programme.

"Of this number, 8,312 participants have successfully registered their businesses and received business grants totalling RM125.8 million," he said in response to a query from Datuk Muslimin Yahaya (PN-Sungai Besar).

Muslimin had asked about the number of entrepreneurs produced and trained through TUBE by SME Corporation Malaysia up to this year and the total amount of funds or grants given to these entrepreneurs.

Ramanan said SME Corp next year, through the programme, wanted to encourage the younger generation to venture into entrepreneurship, with a funding allocation of RM20 million.

The TUBE programme is to encourage entrepreneurship among Bumiputera youth aged 18 to 30 and to shift their mindset from job seekers to business owners or entrepreneurs.

Support given includes capacity building through training, as well as start-up business grants ranging from RM10,000 to RM15,000, depending on the type of business, along with business coaching and advisory services.
