THE MyData Summit 2024 brought together 115 participants eager to explore how data-driven strategies can propel their businesses to new heights.

The event featured a wide array of exhibitors, including the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), iCompany, MyData, ePerolehan, Speed2U and Silver Alam, showcasing solutions and services designed to support business growth.

Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside, the airline-themed summit took off with an opening speech by Big Dataworks Sdn Bhd CEO Sheriza Zakaria, setting the tone for a day filled with insights and actionable advice.

Throughout the day, prominent speakers took the stage to share their expertise on a range of topics, from government procurement opportunities to the transformative power of data in driving business success.

Sheriza, in his opening remarks, made an analogy that likened business leadership to piloting an aircraft.

“There are three things a modern pilot does: Taxi, take-off and landing. The rest is on autopilot,” he said.

Sheriza said while automation plays a significant role in both flying and business, the journey to success requires significant effort and planning.

“In business, just like in flying, you need a clear flight path to navigate and achieve your goals,” he added.

Sheriza’s words set the stage for a series of discussions centred around using data and technology to steer businesses towards success.

Transform Your Business Growth

The first session of the day was led by SSM and LLP Incorporation Unit manager Amirul Ihsan Sharif titled “Soaring Higher: Transforming Your Business Growth.”

Amirul discussed the importance of the Companies Act 2016 and its role in modernising business operations in Malaysia.

The Act, which came into force in 2017, replaced the outdated Companies Act of 1965 and introduced several improvements that make it easier for businesses to register and operate.

“The Companies Act 2016 has streamlined the process of incorporating, managing and dissolving companies,” he said.

He introduced the Superform, a single form used for company incorporation, which significantly simplifies the registration process.

Amirul highlighted that compliance with this new legislation is essential for businesses to remain competitive.

“This new legislation allows businesses to operate with greater ease and transparency, enabling them to focus more on growth than compliance.”

Amirul urged companies to utilise MyData platform to ensure they keep abreast with their regulatory obligations.

By using MyData, businesses can maintain accurate records, file necessary documents and ensure they meet compliance requirements.

“With MyData, businesses can maintain better records and remain agile in an evolving market, positioning themselves for success,” Amirul added.

Utilising MyData for Business Excellence

Big Dataworks Commercial VP Fisal Ebrahim’s presentation titled “Flight Path to Success: Utilising MyData for Business Excellence” emphasised that in today’s fast-paced business environment, data is an invaluable resource.

Data is the new currency and those who can effectively harness it will lead their industries.

His presentation focused on how MyData can provide businesses with a strategic advantage by delivering critical insights on market trends and competitor activities.

Fisal illustrated how businesses can use data to identify gaps in the market, improve their internal processes and develop winning strategies.

“By leveraging MyData, companies can analyse their competitors, optimise their operations and respond more effectively to market changes,” Fisal added.

He provided examples of companies that have successfully used MyData to drive growth, showing how the platform can be utilised for market analysis, competitor benchmarking and strategic planning.

Fisal encouraged businesses to integrate data-driven insights into their decision-making processes.

“The key is to use data not just for short-term gains but to build long-term success,” he noted.

Fisal stressed the need for businesses to embrace data as a core component of their strategy to remain competitive and agile.

Expand Your Business Reach

Commerce Dot Com Sdn Bhd client management assistant manager Wan Hafendi Wan Ismail’s presentation was titled “Wings of Opportunity: Expanding Your Business Reach.”

It focused on the government’s ePerolehan system, which facilitates public procurement and allows businesses to bid on government contracts.

“ePerolehan is a gateway to lucrative government contracts that can significantly boost a company’s profile,” Wan Hafendi said.

He detailed the steps required to register on the platform, outlining the benefits it offers to businesses of all sizes and emphasised that the platform is not just for large corporations but is designed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well.

“Government procurement is not just for the big players — it is designed for businesses of all sizes — and ePerolehan gives you the tools to compete.”

Wan Hafendi said ePerolehan system enables businesses to access tenders from a wide range of government agencies and departments, opening up new opportunities for growth.

He encouraged SMEs to register on the platform and explore the various procurement opportunities available.

“ePerolehan allows you to showcase your products and services to government buyers, giving you the chance to expand your business reach and secure long-term contracts,” he added.

The session highlighted the importance of government procurement as a growth avenue, particularly for businesses looking to scale and diversify their revenue streams.

The Road to Recognition

The final speaker of the day was JW United Group founder Juzairiah Wazir, representing instant drink brand, Silver Alam, who presented “Jetset to Excellence: The Road to Recognition.”

Her session centred on the various grants and financial support available to businesses in Malaysia, with a particular focus on SMEs. “These grants are designed to give businesses the financial backing they need to scale and innovate,” she said, highlighting key programmes such as the Skim Pembiayaan Ekonomi Desa and Tekun Nasional.

She provided detailed guidance on how businesses can apply for these grants, emphasising that securing the right funding can be a game-changer for SMEs looking to expand.

Juzairiah also discussed different types of grants available, including matching grants and rural development grants, which are designed to support small businesses in underserved regions.

“We want to help businesses take off and achieve excellence, and these grants are the runway to do just that,” she added.

She shared success stories of businesses that had leveraged government grants to scale their operations and gain recognition in their industries.

Juzairiah’s presentation equipped attendees with the knowledge they need to secure financial support and grow their businesses.

“The government offers a range of financial assistance and it is up to businesses to take advantage of these opportunities,” she added.

The Importance of Collaboration and Community

Throughout the summit, a common theme emerged: The importance of collaboration and building a strong business community.

As mentioned in his open- ing remarks, Sheriza pointed out the need for businesses to work together to achieve success.

“Why don’t we work together and build a single voice? With our stakeholders and partners, we can ensure our presence is noticed,” he said.

This sentiment was echoed by the other speakers, who highlighted the value of collaboration in overcoming challenges and achieving growth.

MyData Summit 2024 provided attendees with valuable insights into how data and technology can be leveraged to drive business success.

From understanding the importance of compliance with the Companies Act to exploring the opportunities presented by government procurement, the summit offered businesses the tools they need to thrive in a competitive market.

The event concluded with a networking session, allowing participants to connect with industry peers and explore potential collaborations.

“With data, you can spot gaps, analyse trends and develop strategic plans for growth. It is all about knowing where to look and using the right resources,” Sheriza said.

MyData Summit 2024 was aimed at inspiring and motivating participants to take their businesses to new heights, armed with the knowledge and resources to succeed in the modern business landscape.
