KOTA KINABALU (Sept 4): Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe has been invited to attend the SME Business Enhancement Seminar, which will be held on September 21 at Raia Hotel. The seminar, themed “Level Up Your Business,” aims to provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sabah with comprehensive knowledge and practical strategies to enhance their market competitiveness.

Sabah China Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Frankie Liew led a delegation of key members, including organising chairman cum Product Development and Trade Director Jackie Voo, Vice Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Desmond Hsiu, committee member Hong Jia Hao and Dick Lee, to pay a courtesy call on Phoong.

They were joined by Asmah Khalid, director of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (Sabah Branch) and her officer Azlan bin Mohd Said.

During the visit, Voo briefed Phoong on the seminar which will be co-organized by several agencies, including the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (Sabah Branch, MyIPO), the Department of Food Safety and Quality (Sabah Branch, BKKM), the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Sabah Branch, FAMA), and the Sabah Religious Affairs Department (MUIS Halal Hub).

It will cover various key areas such as intellectual property (trademark, copyright and etc), Malaysia food safety standard, agrifood marketing and grant availability, and process of Halal certification.

Phoong said that the seminar aligns perfectly with the state government’s goal of upgrading and developing SMEs.

He emphasized that enhancing the market competitiveness of SMEs is crucial to the economic development of Sabah. Through this event, SMEs will have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of relevant policies and practical business enhancement strategies, particularly in the areas of intellectual property protection, food safety, agrifood industries and the application processes for Halal certification.

He further urged SMEs in Sabah, especially those in the food and beverage industry, to actively participate in this seminar to gain more insights and resources that will lay a solid foundation for their business growth.

Phoong hopes that through such efforts, SMEs will be able to stand out in the competitive market, achieving higher levels of business success.
