KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), has been recognised as the Best Microfinance Institution in the country.
In a post on Facebook, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk R. Ramanan, commended AIM's managing director, Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz, for receiving the National Leadership Icon Award 2024 for Microfinance.
He said that the recognition was due to Mohamed Shamir and the AIM team's achievement in empowering micro-entrepreneurs nationwide, in line with the National Entrepreneurship Policy and the MADANI Economy: Empowering the People agenda to create a holistic and conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Last year, AIM channelled a total of RM2.6 billion in funds to 320,000 AIMregistered Sahabat Usahawan microentrepreneurs, as well as an additional fund of RM50 million especially for Indian women entrepreneurs through the Prosperity, Empowerment and a New Normal (PENN) initiative.
"I am very proud to see AIM receiving this award, which is a recognition of KUSKOP's efforts to empower entrepreneurs by providing entrepreneurial training and business financing," he said in the post.
Ramanan had presented the award at the Malaysian Entrepreneur Personality and Industry Awards Ceremony organised by Malaysia's No. 1 SME portal, Niaga Times, recently.
