SUBANG JAYA, May 22 (Bernama) - The fifth Business Excellence Awards (BEA) of 2024, hosted by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC), celebrated the exemplary achievements of companies from the United Kingdom (UK) and Malaysia across seven categories.
Among 48 nominees, Smith & Nephew Operations Sdn Bhd, a medical equipment manufacturer, received the UK - Malaysian Business of the Year Award for its sustainable practices and global provision of quality orthopedic products.
AstraZeneca Sdn Bhd, a pharmaceutical company, earned the UK-Malaysia Partnership of the Year Award for its collaborations with Clinical Research Malaysia, encompassing clinical trials, governance meetings and site visits
This marks the second consecutive win for the company in this category, having also received the award in 2022.
BMCC chairman Mak Joon Nien praised this year’s nominees for their outstanding submissions, which demonstrated commendable achievements and dedication to sustainable business practices.
"Given the exceptional quality of submissions, this year marked the introduction of a presentation and a 'question and answer' session, providing our judges deeper insights into our top nominees.
"Kudos to all nominees for being such strong contenders and for giving our panel of judges much to consider," he said in a statement.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo and British High Commissioner to Malaysia Ailsa Terry were among the dignitaries present at the event.
Established in 2018, the BMCC Business Excellence Awards aim to celebrate the enduring business ties between the UK and Malaysia by recognising companies that excel across various categories.
As for other award recipients, Cardiff Metropolitan University and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) received the UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership of the Year Award for their collaborative efforts, resulting in reputational enhancements and significant contributions through successful grant applications and innovative initiatives.
Dyson Manufacturing Sdn Bhd was honored with the Technology and Innovation Award for its innovative prowess in developing top-of-the-line household products.
HL Design Group Sdn Bhd, an architecture firm, was recognised with the Outstanding Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Award for its achievements in upskilling employees, sharing regional knowledge and promoting sustainability through unique design models.
Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd was awarded the Outstanding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Award for its comprehensive sustainability report and clear strategies to uphold ESG principles.
PricewaterhouseCoopers Malaysia received the Diversity & Inclusion Award for its robust diversity and inclusion (D&I) policies, emphasising inclusive leadership and dedicated efforts towards D&I, alongside advocating for flexible work arrangements.
Looking ahead, BMCC plans to introduce the Outstanding K - 12 Education Partnership Award in future editions of the awards, recognising initiatives that significantly impact the education sector, encompassing students, teachers and the broader community.
