CYBERJAYA: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Wing K Lee has emphasised the importance of Malaysia staying at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence (AI) development.
Wing said deploying an AI supercomputer within Malaysia, particularly integrated with the YES network, will ensure minimal latency.
"Even on another network, the latency will be very good because it is domestic. That in turn, will give Malaysians a competitive match compared to Singapore and Taiwan," he told reporters at Experian Malaysia's GenAI Tech Week here today.
Wing observed that currently, Malaysians, whether they are AI developers or users, encounter increased latency when accessing hyper scalers outside Malaysia, necessitating trips to places like Singapore, Taiwan, the US or the UK.
"But if latency goes up, it may not be competitive. By having low latency access to high graphics processing units (GPU), like we are doing, we can provide equal access to high quality AI to all Malaysians, wherever they are in the country," he added.
Today, Experian Malaysia launched its inaugural GenAi Tech Week, an initiative to empower its employees to unlock the transformative power of Generative AI.
Experian Malaysia country head and human resources director Chua Chai Ping said the company has provided training on GenAI to 94 per cent of its employees worldwide, ensuring they are proficient in its safe and secure usage.
"At Experian, we believe everyone deserves the chance to harness the power of AI. That is why we equip our workforce, regardless of technical background, with foundational GenAI skills.
"We are empowering them to leverage this powerful technology and drive innovation across the company," she added.
The event included Ong Kian Ming as the keynote speaker, who serves as a board member of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and director for the philosophy, politics and economics programme at Taylor's University.
