MALAYSIA External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) is leading an effort to boost Malaysia’s construction and related services via the Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Indonesia from Dec 18 to 21, 2023.
The four-day mission encompasses a series of programmes involving the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Indonesia (PUPR), Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara (OIKN), Dinas Penanaman Modal dan Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (DPMPTSP) Kalimantan Utara, Badan Pengusahaan Kawasan Perdagangan Bebas dan Pelabuhan Bebas Batam (BP Batam), Nusantara Global and Himpunan Pengusaha Muda Indonesia (HIPMI).
Matrade deputy CEO Sharimahton Mat Saleh said the anticipated value of the construction industry in Indonesia for 2023 is estimated at 333 trillion rupiah (RM100.85 billion), with 47% allocated to the civil sector and 53% to the building sector.
The commitment of the Indonesian government to boost investment in the infrastructure sector aligns with Matrade’s organisation of flagship events and programmes specifically designed to expedite Malaysia’s exports of products and services to Indonesia.
“This continual initiative highlights Matrade’s dedication to aiding Malaysian companies in obtaining potential business opportunities through strategic partnerships or joint ventures.
“Notably, the emphasis of this endeavour will be on the emerging prospects presented by Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara in Kalimantan,” Sharimahton said in a statement.
The Malaysian delegation, comprising representatives from Matrade, the Ministry of Works and Invest Selangor Bhd, includes a total of 24 companies and government departments. The 45 representatives offer high-quality services in various sectors, including construction, architecture, property projects, engineering services, electronics and infrastructure.
In 2022, the value of Malaysia’s total exports in construction services reached RM6.1 billion, with imports valued at RM4.8 billion and recorded overall service exports amounted to RM140.3 billion.
The robustness of the Malaysian construction sector stems from the adeptness of its firms in successfully executing a variety of projects including construction of buildings, roads, highways, railways, bridges and airports, and the development of water treatment and power plants.
Furthermore, Malaysian construction companies excel in tasks such as steel structure fabrication, installation and erection, as well as capabilities to handle mixed development projects, which involve the construction of housing, hotels, leisure facilities and luxury residences particularly for high-rise towers.
