KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor urged traders and entrepreneurs in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to improve the quality of their products and packaging to promote sales.

At the same time, they should make use of the assistance and facilities made available by the State and Federal governments, he said, when officiating the launch of packing company, QPACK Sabah Sdn Bhd, at the Sabah International Convention Centre, Sunday (pic).

Describing QPACK Sabah’s debut as timely, Hajiji sees its role in the Sabah packaging industry as capable of becoming a pillar for the development of SMEs and indirectly stimulating the business industry pattern in the State.

“In the business industry, packaging is important because it serves as the brand and image for the product, making it a marketing marker at the same time.

“I encourage entrepreneurs in our State to use the chance to develop their products, not only in terms of quality but also attractive packaging, in order to compete with products from other states,” he said.

According to Hajiji, the additional special allocation of RM600 million in the 2023 Budget for the small business community in Sabah and Sarawak is a commendable move that businessmen and SME entrepreneurs should use to improve their businesses.

“There is no question that this additional special provision will assist small traders and SME enterprises in the State, particularly in improving and intensifying product promotion.

“In addition to this special allocation, the State Government has provided a total of RM6.17 million to the Industrial Development and Research Department this year to strengthen Sabah product promotion in domestic and international markets. I hope with the various allocations and help provided by the government, as well as the opening of the QPACK Sabah packaging company, we will be able to generate SME entrepreneurs who can satisfy the demands of the local and international markets.”

The State Government always supports any effort by individuals or businesses such as QPACK to encourage economic development in the State.

“Businesses like this also offer job prospects for people in this State. I hope that QPACK, which is owned by a Sabah native, will one day make this State one of the most important packaging evolution hubs,” he said.

He hoped SME traders and entrepreneurs, regardless of whether from the village or the rural would succeed if they worked hard.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister II cum Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Deputy Chief Minister III cum Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and QPACK Sabah Director Catherine Dumas.
