SME Corp Malaysia’s Small and Medium Enterprise Emergency Fund 2.0 (SMEEF 2.0) has received 1,131 applications nationwide amounting to RM109.32 million as of July 12, 2022.
In partnership with MIDF Group, the fund was aimed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) affected by natural disasters throughout the country.
SME Corp CEO Rizal Nainy said emergency funds for SMEs affected by floods are given interest-free loans between RM50,000 up to RM100,000 with a 12-month moratorium.
“To date, almost RM97 million has been approved and distributed to flood-affected SMEs across the country.
“Of this total, 83% are SMEs affected in the state of Selangor, followed by Pahang (7.6%) and Kelantan (3.5%),” he said in a statement today.
The SMEEF 2.0 handover ceremony was officiated by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Development Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar (centre) on July 13, 2022.
Speaking at the event, Noh said the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and its agencies have provided various assistance to entrepreneurs who have been hit by misfortune.
“The SMEEF programme is specifically outlined to help SMEs, while the Informal and Micro Financing Scheme (SPIM) by Tekun Nasional is to help informal and micro entrepreneurs.
“In addition, SPIM informal and micro entrepreneurs can apply for a grant worth RM3,000 per entrepreneur,” he said.
Meanwhile, MIDF MD Datuk Charon Wardini Mokhzani said the SME business community has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and floods which have made things more difficult.
“In collaboration with SME Corp, we have been able to shorten the application process and speed up the disbursement of funds.
“In addition, MIDF also offers the SME Strengthening Fund for SMEs that have been severely affected by the Covid-19 Movement Control Order,” he added.
