PETALING JAYA: Already commonplace in urban areas, the Touch ‘n Go (TNG) Group is looking to extend the benefits of cashless payments to rural folk with the launch of its “Mai Kita Cashless” campaign.

With the initiative, the company seeks to supplement the government’s efforts to make the transition into a predominantly cashless economy through greater awareness and understanding of cashless transactions as a mode of payment.

To begin with, TNG will train its focus on the town of Changlun in Kedah, some 42km north of Alor Setar, before moving on to the villages of Kampung Baru Changloon, Kampung Paya Nongmi and Kampung Tradisi Lembah Keriang.

The campaign was launched at Changlun’s bustling Pasar Tani Kekal by chief assistant district officer Khairul Nizam Abd Latif, TNG eWallet chief commercial officer Danny Chua and PayNet ecosystem development head Heliziana Madzin.

“We started this initiative with PayNet as we wanted to provide the opportunity and platform for rural communities in Malaysia to use and benefit from TNG eWallet and DuitNow QR,” said TNG Digital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Alan Ni.

He said that the collaboration with PayNet will enable TNG to extend a seamless, fast, convenient and safe platform with DuitNow QR for merchants and consumers in Changlun, which will help to improve the economy in the area.

Ni said his company intends to provide the more than 300 merchants operating within the surrounding area of Pasar Tani Kekal the added convenience of adopting TNG’s eWallet and the DuitNow QR as their primary modes of payment.

PayNet group CEO Farhan Ahmad expressed hope that the initiative will spur economic growth in the area by making commerce more seamless and reducing the cost and hassle of managing cash.

From now till Aug 31, consumers can use TNG eWallet to make purchases at Pasar Tani Kekal Changlun and areas around Changlun town by scanning the DuitNow QR code.

In addition, users will also enjoy a RM5 cashback for a minimum transaction of RM10.

Merchants who sign up during this period, will receive a RM20 reward upon completion of 10 transactions.
