KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Malaysia’s small business sector has hailed the 47th Asean Summit as a turning point for regional trade, with new agreements on green technology and digital transformation set to open doors for thousands of enterprises across Southeast Asia.
Small and Medium Enterprises Association Malaysia (Samenta) national president Datuk William Ng said the outcomes of the summit reflected Asean’s commitment to helping small businesses adapt to a rapidly changing trade environment.
He said three key achievements — the Asean–China Free Trade Area 3.0, the Asean Centre of Excellence for MSMEs in Green Transition (MEGA), and the upgraded Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) — would reshape trade and investment flows across the region.
“These initiatives will empower micro, small and medium enterprises to embrace greener practices, digital tools, and stronger participation in cross-border trade,” Ng said in a statement today.
He said the creation of MEGA showed Asean’s serious intent to support MSMEs in the transition towards sustainability.
Ng added that Samenta would work with the government and the newly formed Asean SME Caucus to help Malaysian SMEs adopt cleaner technologies and digital solutions.
He said the caucus would also foster mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and market access for entrepreneurs across the region.
Ng said Samenta believed Malaysia’s leadership at the summit had laid a strong foundation for inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth across Asean.
