KOTA KINABALU: Small Medium Enterprise Association of Sabah (SME Sabah) President, Prof. Datuk Foo Ngee Kee hopes the GRS State Government will be included in the Unity Government.

He said SME Sabah are of the view that SMEs prefer to have continuity and stability in the Government as this can be helpful for business to progress.

“With the GRS in the Unity Government we are hopeful that Federal and Sabah Government relationships will be better, and work to improve Sabah’s economy for the benefit of the SMEs and business community,” he said in a statement, here, Monday.

He said the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan 2021-2025 (SMJDP) has already mapped out the economic plans for Sabah from 2021 to 2025.

There have been a number of economic developments arising from the SMJDP and more coming in the pipelines.

He said the State Government’s reaching the Commercial Collaboration Agreement with Petronas in the oil and gas sector provides ample room for everyone to do business.

He noted that last year the State recorded RM5.449 billion in revenue, the highest ever. Sabah Government also tabled a RM5.1 billion surplus budget for 2023, an increase compared with the RM4.6 billion allocated for this year.

“Therefore, SME Sabah would like to see the GRS Government continue with the SMJDP to help SMEs to revive their businesses and to create new business opportunities,” he said.
